Granular activated carbon, due to its large specific surface area, well-developed pore structure, high mechanical strength, acid and alkali resistance, and stable properties, is widely used in chemical, food, medical, and defense industries. Particularly in environmental protection, activated carbon is of significant research importance as a gas- and liquid-phase adsorbent for treating air and water pollution. Granular activated carbon adsorbents utilize the physical adsorption, chemical adsorption, and oxidation catalysis properties of activated carbon to remove pollutants from water and the atmosphere.

As a highly efficient adsorbent for clean energy, granular activated carbon has already provided significant economic benefits for the storage and transportation of clean energy sources such as natural gas and hydrogen. Meanwhile, granular activated carbon is also widely used in gas purification: unpleasant odors in public or residential places, such as the smell of food in restaurants, the smell of paper in libraries and offices, and the smell of sweat, are all unpleasant and can be purified by granular activated carbon; in industrial plants, such as food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or precision instrument rooms, the air contains smoke, dust, and irritants, which will affect the health of workers or cause oxidation and corrosion of precision instruments, and granular activated carbon can be used to purify and remove impurities; the gases emitted from coal acid plants, chemical plants, and automobile exhaust contain various organic solvents, inorganic and organic sulfides, hydrocarbons, organic mercury compounds, and other harmful components.
